Joe Barden Engineering J-Style Bass Pickups
Joe Barden Engineering expands
its double-blade pickup line with the introduction
of the J-Style bass pickup for J-Bass-style
guitars. Joe Barden J-Style pickups maintain authentic
tone and character but with extended frequency
response and articulation. They are quiet in both live
performance and recording, and are available in four
and five-string versions. The neck and bridge position
pickups differ in size to fit into the cavities of the bass
without modification to the instrument.

Gibson Custom Shop ES-339 Semi-Hollowbody Guitar
The Gibson ES-339 blends the sound of a
semi-hollowbody with the size of a Les Paul.
It delivers all of the singing sustain and the
characteristic nuances of the classic ES-335
and features ’57 Classic Humbuckers, tuliphead
tuners, nickel hardware, an ABR-1 bridge,
dot inlays and a lacquer finish. The 339 also
sports Gibson’s new Memphis Tone Circuit,
which preserves the guitar’s high frequencies
no matter where you put the volume control.

D’Addario adds two new string lines to their popular XL series. The XL ProSteels, already
successful for basses, will replace the existing XLS Stainless Steel line, while keeping the
same gauges. The XL ProSteels use a specially-formulated alloy to deliver a super-bright
tone without shrill overtones. The XL Pure Nickel strings recall the sounds of the ‘50s and
